  • Sunday, May 5 – A World of Accordions presents the World Accordion Day Dr. Willard A. Palmer Festival at Harrington ARTS Center, 1401 Belknap Street in Superior. The 2024 Honorees are George Curletto, Willard A. Palmer III and Joan C. Sommers. Tickets are $25 per event, $50 1 day, $75 2 days. World Accordion Day is May 6. You are invited to join for concerts, workshops, rehearsals, and MORE at A World of Accordions.
  • Tuesday, May 7 – The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will present its Jazz Band with the Big Time Jazz Orchestra (BTJO) in a special Scholarship Concert at 7:30 p.m. in Manion Theatre in the Holden Fine Arts Center at 1805 Catlin Ave. Proceeds from the concert will go toward a scholarship for a UW-Superior music major for excellence in jazz studies. Under the direction of Greg Kehl Moore, professor of music and jazz program director at UW-Superior, the concert will feature works by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Gordan Goodwin, Pat Metheny, Charles Mingus, Bob Mintzer, Ellis Marsalis, Astor Piazzolla and Radiohead. The 2024 BTJO/UWS Jazz Scholarship winner will be announced at intermission during this the concertS. uggested donation for this concert is $10.   • Saturday, May 11 – The Saint Louis County Historical Society and its Veterans Memorial Hall are holding a 5k to honor the memory of Command Sergeant Major John S. Werner. Start time is 9AM with a short ceremony prior at The Other Place Bar & Grill, 3930 East Calvary Rd, Duluth, MN 55803. The entry fee is $30. Runners may register via runsignup.com’s website at https://runsignup.com/Race/MN/Duluth/CSMJohnWernerMemorial5kRunWalk. Proceeds will benefit the programs of the SLCHS’s Veterans Memorial Hall

  • Thursday, May 16 – Collaborating Strength in our Community: “Bringing together professionals who work alongside victims of abuse” at UW-Superior Great Room from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Must be pre-registered. Light breakfast at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $75 including breakfast and supplies. Learn about diversity, equity and inclusion in the work place. Watch an educational short film and participatee in a discussion highlightingthe hidden dynamics of abuse.   • Saturday, May 18 – Spaghetti Dinner in Hill City from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Hill City Fire Hall in Hill City. $10 per plate. Children under 5 eat free. Proceeds benefit the Hill City 4th of July Celebration.
  • Saturday, May 18 – JDRF Community One Walk at UMD Malosky Stadium, 1336 University Drive, at 10:00 a.m. Participants will walk 5k to raise money for critical type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, and be at the center of the global effort to improve the lives of millions living with T1D.   • Wednesday, May 22 – Community Connect Event at the Hibbing Memorial Arena, 400 E 23rd Street in Hibbing from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Community members facing homelessness or financial challenges are invited to attend this free event. Organized in collaboration with local partners and inspired by the national Project Homeless Connect. Arrowhead Transit is offering free rides to and from the Community Connect event. To arrange your ride, call 1-800-862-0175, Option 1. There will be free food, clothing and hygiene items, hair trimming, crisis information, housing support, children and family services, mental health resources and more.   • Saturday May 25 – 27th Annual DGFS PLANT SALE – Sponsored by the Duluth Garden Flower Society at the Duluth Rose Garden Parking Lot. 8:00-10:00 am or until sold out. The event will be held rain or shine. Get great deals on prerennials, annuals, native plants, orchids, Heirloom vegetables, roses, herbs, and cool garden art treasures. It’s a great variety of plants that thrive in the Twin Ports and surrounding area. Prices – many ranging from $2-$10.00. Talk with experts. Bring boxes, wagons or carts to carry.
